อัตชีวประวัติ : ความหลังและชีวิตกับวรรณศิลป์

Abstract

ชีวิตที่เลือกไม่ได้ ของกรุณา กุศลาสัย และ อัตชีวประวัติสมศรี สุกุมลนันทน์ เป็นหนังสืออัตชีวประวัติที่เล่าชีวิตของผู้แต่งซึ่งเกิดในเวลาใกล้เคียงกัน (ปีพุทธศักราช 2464 และ 2462 ตามลำดับ) แม้ท่านแรกมีชีวิตที่ผกผัน และท่านหลังมีชีวิตราบเรียบ แต่มีลักษณะร่วมกันที่การแสดงภูมิธรรมของชีวิตในกรอบความคิดของวัฒนธรรมไทยใน ช่วงรอยต่อของยุคเก่าใหม่ว่า ชีวิตจักไปสู่จุดหมายด้วยปัญญา ความเชื่อมั่นในศักยภาพ ของความเป็นมนุษย์ และการศึกษาเรียนรู้อย่างต่อเนื่องท่ามกลางปฏิสัมพันธ์กับผู้อื่น

วิธีเล่าเรื่องในอัตชีวประวัติทั้งสองเรื่องคือการแสดงออกอย่างระมัดระวัง ถ่อมตน และมีอุเบกขาโดยไม่บิดเบือนความจริง มีข้อคิดอันแยบคาย และให้ความ เข้าใจชีวิตด้วยภาษาอันประณีต นับว่าสารคดีทั้งสองเล่มเป็นงานวรรณศิลป์ที่มีทั้งพลัง ทางปัญญาและความงาม

Autobiography : The Past and Life in Library Work

Karuna Kusalasai’s Chiwit Thi Luak Maidai (Life Without a Choice) and Attachiwaprawat Somsri Sukumolanandana (Somsri Sukumolanandana’s Autobiography) are life stories of two contemporary authors (born in 1921 and in 1919 respectively). Although the former’s life is full of ups and downs and latter’s was placid, their common characteristics lie in their moral standards conceived within the Thai culture during the transition from the traditional to the modern times. Through wisdom, both have led their life toward their goals with confidence in human potentialities, continuously learning and interacting with others.

The narrations of both autobiographies reveal the authors’ conscientiousness, modesty and equanimity. In refined language, the two works present undistorted accounts with profound points which contribute to the understanding of life. The two autobiographies, therefore, can be considered literary masterpieces of spiritual and aesthetic force.
