An Evaluation of the Social Development Curriculum, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prince of Songkla University

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the curriculum for the Bachelor of Arts in Social Development in terms of context, input and output, administrative process, and teaching and learning management. The data were collected from participants selected by means of purposive sampling, including 3 curriculum specialists, 1 curriculum administrator, 6 instructors of Social Development, 100 second to fourth-year undergraduates of the academic year 2005, 42 graduates of the academic year 2004 and 22 employers of those graduates. The instruments comprised a curriculum analysis form, an administrator interview form and four sets of questionnaires for instructors, undergraduates, graduates and graduatesR employers. The results showed that the curriculum context was at a good level while all three aspects of curriculum input students, instructors and learning support facilities-- were at a moderate level. Overall, the curriculum management regarding student recruitment, instructor selection and development, and teaching and learning was marked at a very good level. The curriculum output and academic services for development were also at a good level. Yet, the curriculum administration was marked at a poor level, and expertise and knowledge creation at a fair level, suggesting the need for improvement.
