Abstract

The article presents the process and results of creating a performance with the research objectives of 1. Finding creative methods for contemporary Lammu performance using devised theatre as a tool to experiment with collaborators, based on the ancient Isan literature “Pha Daeng Nang Ai”. 2. Creating a contemporary Lammu performance that communicates contemporary ideas and is suitable for the target audience, while preserving the value of traditional Lammu performance. The research process is practice-led. The research findings were as follows: 1. Story creation method: Elements from the old story were adapted to fit the current context through the worldview, attitudes, and experiences of the collaborators using improvisation, resulting in a new, contemporary story. 2. Singing and performance method: The Khon Kaen style of singing was integrated with the strengths of the performers' vocal abilities, creating a unique singing style through the interpretation of traditional verses, allowing for a natural and contextually appropriate performance. 3. Directing method: The focus was on working with the core ideas of the story and communicating through performance, singing, and unified stage elements. The resulting performance was a new and distinct form from traditional Lammu, called Molam-in-Theatre.
