The Evolution of Protest songs from The Era of People’s Party in 1932 to The Era of People’s Party in 2020

Abstract

At present, Thailand’s popular music community has misunderstood about “Songs for life” or what is called the protest songs. Most of them understand that it is based on music styles or artist’s identity or those love songs written about personal love story uses local language in the lyric such as Southern Thai language. As I mentioned above, the current interpretations do not match with the origin of songs for life. The purposes of this article are to seek and study history of songs for life in order to understand its real original meaning and the evolution of the protest songs in each eras. Musicology theory was used for analyzed music styles to link the social factors of the protest songs from the era of People’s Party in 1932 to the era of People’s Party in 2020.
