Intersemiotic Cohesion between Texts and Images in the Dialogues of the Stretch 1 English Textbook
Main Article Content
บทคัดย่อ
This study examines intersemiotic cohesion between verbal texts and visual images in the dialogues of Stretch 1, an English commercial textbook. Liu and O’Halloran’s (2009) intersemiotic cohesive devices: Reference, Theme-Rheme Development, Given-New Organization, and Parallel Structure were used in the research to analyze 12 dialogues from all units of the book to assess how these elements interact to convey meaning. Results show partial coherence and inconsistencies in intersemiotic cohesion. Reference and Theme-Rheme cohesion were most frequent, while Parallel Structure was least consistent. This underscores the need for stronger text-image integration to support upper-beginner learners.
