Needs and Use of Learning Center and Learning Network of Mon Communities in Lamphun Province

Abstract

This study aims to study the needs and use of learning center with recommendations for the development of learning resources and learning network in Ban Nong Du and Bor Kao communities in Lamphun Province. The researcher applied the survey research method using questionnaire, and collected data from the sample groups who are the citizen of Mon communities in Ban Nong Du and Bor Kao, Ban Ruen Subdistrict, Pa Sang District, Lamphun Province. The questionnaires were distributed to 273 people. It was found that 1) in terms of the needs of learning center and network, participation in communities is considered the most important ( = 4.40), followed by Mon community network ( = 4.38), information resources ( = 4.37), service and hospitality ( = 4.36), staff and service providers ( = 4.33), buildings and infrastructure ( = 4.32), public relations ( = 4.31), physical aspects ( = 4.26), and facilities ( = 4.23) respectively. 2) In terms of learning resources of Mon communities, 26.40% of the locals used temples, such as Wat Nong Du and Wat Ko Klang, as their learning centers. 20.50% of them searched for the information of their interest there, and 24.10% of them looked for information about traditions, such as Honey Alms-giving Ceremony and Swan-and-Centipedes Banner Procession Ceremony. 3)​ In terms of recommendations for managing the learning center and network in Ban Nong Du and Bor Kao communities, were suggested to be taken into consideration: 1) buildings and infrastructure; 2) information resources; 3) service and hospitality; 4) personnel/staff; 5) participation; and 6) other related aspects.
