Abstract

This paper reviews the concepts, history of participatory budgeting, and the practice of participatory budgeting in Asian countries. The paper also discusses the status of participatory budgeting in Thailand in terms of the rationale for
implementation, supporting legislation, and the existing mechanisms. Finally, the paper analyzes lessons learned from other countries and challenges for the purpose of adapting participatory budgeting to the Thai contexts. The research methodology is qualitative in nature by reviewing the literature and collecting data through in-depth interviews.
