Perception and Trust Factors to Public Participation in Flood and Waste Water Management: A Case Study of Al-Eartisom Community, Suanluang District, Bangkok

Abstract

This research aims to study the perception and trust factors trust in public participation in flood and waste water management of Al-Eartisom Community, Suanluang District, Bangkok. The samples of this study were people living within Al-Eartisom Community, Suanluang District, Bangkok. The data were collected using survey questionnaires with a total sampling size of 311 persons and 84.24 percent of the questionnaires are completed and used for analysis. And analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, such as percentage, means, standard deviation. Statistical hypothesis testing was multiple regression.

The results showed that, 55.7 percent were females; 35.5 percent were aged between 18-28 years; 48.8 percent were married; 22.5 percent were graduated in high school education; 22.5 percent were private or factory employee; 42.7 percent had income 10,000-20,000 Baht/month; 46.2 percent have lived in Al-Eartisom Community for 16-30 years; 91.2 percent of the samples received an information and news about the flood and waste water management. Most of them (66.4 percent) received information from the head of community. There are only 12.6 percent which received information from government agency. The samples had the opinions about the information receiving in intermediate level with an average score of 3.02, opinions about the awareness in intermediate level with an average score of 3.24, opinions about the expected benefits in intermediate level with an average score of 3.24, opinions about the trust in the Department of Drainage and Sewerage who manages the participation in intermediate level with an average score of 3.32, and opinions about the trust among persons who attend the participation which influencing public participation in flood and waste water management in intermediate level with an average score of 3.05.

The hypothesis test result revealed that factors influencing the public participation in flood and waste water management had eight factors, which were information receiving, expected benefits, trust in the Department of Drainage and Sewerage, and trust among persons who attend the participation at the 0.05 significance level.
