The Analysis of Organizational Life Cycle of Thai Public Service Broadcasting.
Abstract
This article is an analytical study of stages in which Thai public service broadcastings exist on the organizational life cycle since they were still independent broadcastings. In other words, they were ITV and TITV television stations until they have become a public media under the name of Thai PBS in the present time. This study has been analyzed through a concept of Ichak Adizes by using the qualitative method form documented information, document that collects events and interviews, and in-depth interviews with senior executives of all 3 organizations which are ITV, TITV, and Thai PBS television stations. The study result found that ITV television station existed in the Bureaucracy stage and TITV television existed in the Early bureaucracy stage by which both organizations had entered into a stage that had to face with the decline of the organizations. Unlike these two organizations, Thai PBS has still remained in its stable stage of the organizational life cycle. At this stage, the organization can adapt itself and deal with difficulties in order to prevent the decline of organization, which the two previous ones used to confront with. Nonetheless, it was found that the decline of organization as well as the breakdown of the two case studies did not only occur owing to internal operational failures, but also external forces such as economic state or political intervention.
