THE PARTICIPATORY ACTION RESEARCH FOR LOCAL WISDOM KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT ABOUT UTILIZATION OF NIPA PALM IN YONG-STAR ISLAND COMMUNITY, TRANG PROVINCE

Abstract
This participatory action research aims to study the pattern of knowledge management and knowledge transfer of local wisdom towards the utilization of Nipa palm and to study in Yong-Star Island community, Trang Province. The data was collected from 10 stakeholders (inside and outside community participated) using focus group, in-depth interview, participant observation, field survey, and mind mapping. The qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis. The findings are as follows:
- Yong-Star Island community values the local wisdom towards both utilization and consumption of Nipa palm which is the local industrial drop. Most parts of Nipa palm can be beneficial. This local wisdom occurs through the observation, experiential learning, and handing down through generations; consequently, its knowledge’s still exist nowadays.
- The results of knowledge management’s process are divided into 2 part which are the utilization and consumptions of Nipa palm. Six parts for utilization are mature leaves, young leaves, semi-mature leaves, stalks, boles, and roots, and two parts for consumption fruits and flowers.
- Local children are the group of people whom people of the community think that they should transfer their knowledge about the benefit of Nipa Palm.
- In order to develop to the knowledge transfer of local wisdom towards the utilization and consumption of Nipa palm, the community should provide the knowledge transfer to local children by integrated in local school activities
