STRUCTURAL VIOLENCE IN MAP TA PHUT INDUSTRIAL ESTATE’S DEVELOPMENT, RAYONG PROVINCE

Abstract
The objective of this article is to describe process of violence relating to state during Map Ta Phut industrial developing process, Rayong province. The methodology used in this study was case study. Data was collected from secondary data; public documents, research reports and VDOs about Map Ta Phut. The result is as follows. There are 3 periods of Map Ta Phut’s development are classified by important actors’ role; (1) state-led industrial development (1981-1992), (2) industrial capital-led development (1993-2005) and (3) state-capital-community alliance (2006-2017). Development of conflicts in the three periods were based on environmental conflict which power of 3 vital agencies; state, industrial capital and people play significant role. For dimension of structural violence, state’s forced industrialization in Map Ta Phut was marginalized people by laws and the community itself which led to alienation of the marginal. The procedures led to impede or obstruct a good quality of people’s life during long development’s time.
