Political Communication through Music of Pongsit Kampee during B.E. 2534-2555

Abstract

The study entitled “Political Communication through Music of  Pongsit Kampee during B.E. 2534-2555” aims to 1) investigate political, social, and Pongsit Kampee’s political experience that had influenced to political communication via music context in the period of B.E. 2534-2555; and 2) analyze political communication issue through Pongsit Kampee’s music between B.E. 2534-2555.


The study results showed that political, social, and Pongsit Kampee’s political experience that had influenced to political communication via music context in the period of B.E. 2534-2555 can be divided into three main periods. Initially, May Day violence in B.E. 2535, People's Constitution in B.E 2540 and Economic Crises (Since B.E. 2534-2543). Following with the Thai political regime under Thaksin Shinawatra, the protesting of the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) until there was the coup on Tuesday 19th September in 2006 by the Council for Democratic Reform (CDR) (Since B.E. 2544-2549). Finally, Thailand political landscape after coup and increasing in the political violence (Since B.E. 2549-2555). Considering on the political role of Pongsit Kampee especially once he has directly participated in the political violence in B.E.2535 or it is well known as black may day as well as Thai political conflict during B.E. 2548-2553. All of these political experiences have extremely determined political communication via the music of Pongsit Kampee.


In addition, the research also exposed the issue of political communication through Pongsit Kampee’s music between B.E. 2534-2555, are to be categorized to 1) Underpinning democratic regime; 2) Sarcasm the abuse of power amid politicians, bureaucrats and governmental officials; 3) Manifestation people hardship and ironic political context in each period; 4) Promoting nationalism ideology; and 5) Keeping peace and anti-war.
