Proposals for Developing the Border Special Economic Zones in Tak Province

Abstract

This research aims to study proposal for development of the border special economic zone and to study obstacle of the border special economic zone development in Tak province. This qualitative research divided its methods into 3 stages: 1) In depth interviews of 5 key stakeholders in policy level, 2) Focus group of 20 community leaders and 3) Group interviews of 55 government agencies in area level with the data analyzed by content analysis. Findings include: 1) propose, 2 areas are suggested including the 3 districts of Tak province or the area of 5,603 hectares in Maesot district. Revised on the work of aliens law, extended opening hours across the border and border crossing, manage their own agency, the entrepreneurs/industry that should be a clean industry, industries of agriculture sector and labor-intensive, and benefits for tax and non-tax duties, and 2) Obstacles of the development, including the areas is not clear, the law is inconsistent with the development, the lack of information and understanding, and the management is not clear.
