Work Motivation and Organizational Commitment Among Teachers at Early Childhood Development Center under a Local Administrative Organization, Chachoengsao Province

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to examine work motivation and organizational commitment among teachers working for early childhood development centers as well as determining the relationship between their level of work motivation and organizational commitment. The data were collected by a questionnaire from 234 teachers of all in 4 District, Mueang Chachoengsao, Ban Pho, Phanom Sarakham and Bang Pakong District. The descriptive statistics, including means, percentage, standard deviation, were used to analyze the collected data. Also, Pearson-Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was operated to determine the relationship.


            The results of the study revealed that the teachers working for early childhood development centers had a high level of work motivation.  When considering each aspect, the subjects rated their motivation in relation to interpersonal relationship at the highest level, followed by the aspects relating to work achievement, job security, acceptance and respect, job advancement, responsibility, work environment, policy and administration, type of assigned work, and salary and fringe benefits, respectively.  Also, it was shown that the subject’s level of organization commitment was found at a moderate level.  When considering each aspect, maximizing the benefits of organization was rated by the subjects at the highest level, followed by the aspect relating to the acceptance of organizational goals and value.  In addition, the aspect pertaining to retaining the membership in the organization was rated at a low level.  Finally, a moderate level of relationship was found between the subject’s work motivation and organizational commitment at a significant level of .01 (r=.576).
