Environmental Governance: Meaning, Level and Mechanism of Governance

Abstract

This article is to primarily explore the nature and academic argument of Environmental Governance concept in 3 main questions: what is its meaning definition, how many level of governance and what mechanism of governance are. The study found that although Environmental Governance concept has a diversity of meaning definition, there are common position in term of supporting all actors in process of environmental policy-making and management. About level of governance, there are 4 levels such as: (1) Global Environmental Governance (2) Regional Environmental Governance (3) National Environmental Governance and (4) Multi-Level Environmental Governance. Each level of Environmental Governance has 3 mechanism forms for supporting their governance to address environmental issues effectively: (1) regime (2) network and (3) institution or organization.
