Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to examine records concerning the Kha rebellion that took place from 2417 to 2429 B.E. (1874-1886 C.E.). These records include testimonies of the local governors of Lan Xang provinces, memoirs of people who took part in the incidents, and the archives. All these historical writings, which were recorded and first published in the period 2429 to 2466 B.E. (1886-1923 C.E.), constructed the definition of “the Kha rebellion in Tai-Lao history” and portrayed the significant role of the indigenous people of the Mekong basin in this history. The rebellion destroyed Siam’s power over the marginal territories of Lan Xang. In the end Siam was defeated by France during the incidents that occurred 2431- 2436 B.E. (1888-1893 C.E.). Later, France was obliged to fight with the Kha rebellion through the colonial period.
