Abstract

The main theme of this article is the construction of the memory of Kaysone Phomvihane through historical and biographical writings as well as textbooks produced by the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the Government of Lao PDR from 1975 to 2010 C.E.  The research found that new regime (the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the Government of Lao PDR) constructed the memory of Kaysone Phomvihane as a leader of the revolution and a national hero. At the same time it did not mention, or it attempted to forget, certain events about him to reduce the memory of him by the Laos people. This implies that the only political party allowed to exist in the country used selective memory to stabilize the regime.
