Abstract

Border discourses assign a particular meaning to an area, people, and practices. The Mukdahan border has its own uniqueness which creates a way to understanding   traditional lifestyles and border community relations. Border discourses originated to promote tourism and commerce and to encourage relationships, language strategies, and other related actions among neighboring countries. Consequently, Mukdahan has become a city of tourism and commerce, with the context of diverse groups of people residing at the border.  Such a context might be used as a guideline for government policy-making in order to enhance understanding and bring about positive relations, which will lead to cooperative development on the Thai-Lao border.
