Human Resource Management in Small-Scale Hotel Businesses in Maha Sarakham Province

The objectives of this research were: 1.to study the human resource management models of small hotel businesses in Maha Sarakham Province. 2. to analyze the factors affecting their human resource management; and 3. to propose guidelines for improving and developing their human resource management there. A qualitative research methodology was employed; the study conducted in-depth interviews with hotel executives. Data collection involved the in-depth interviews, using a semi-structured interview format. Data analysis comprised of several steps: data preparation, transcription of interview recordings and conversion of audio files into text, data validation, Verification of data accuracy. Reliability Check: Ensuring the consistency of data interpretation. and validity check (confirming the authenticity and relevance of the data within the research context).
The findings showed the following. 1) Most small hotels in the province were family-run businesses with no more than 60 rooms and 10-30 employees, catering primarily to business travelers, students, and their parents. 2) HRM practices in these hotels typically emphasized on the local recruitment, owner/manager-led selection processes, and on-the-job training. Factors influencing these practices included organizational structure, budget constraints, organizational culture, economic conditions, competition, and the characteristics of the local labor market. 3) The study recommended the development of standardized HRM systems, with organizational restructuring and the formalization of recruitment, selection, and training processes. Collaboration with local educational institutions was also proposed to enhance HRM effectiveness.
