Abstract

This study aimed to examine the factors influencing responsible Generative AI usage behavior among undergraduate students. A quantitative research design was employed, with a sample of 410 students from higher education institutions in Bangkok and its surrounding areas. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including multiple regression analysis.

The findings revealed that students demonstrated high levels of AI literacy, positive attitudes toward Generative AI, and strong awareness of risks and ethical considerations. Responsible usage behavior was also found to be at a high level. The results of the multiple regression analysis indicated that the three factors collectively explained 81.0% of the variance in responsible Generative AI usage behavior, with statistical significance (p < .001). Among these factors, risk and ethical awareness had the strongest influence, followed by attitude, and AI literacy and understanding, respectively.

In conclusion, promoting the responsible use of Generative AI in higher education should emphasize not only knowledge and attitudes but also ethical awareness. In particular, fostering students’ awareness of risks and ethical considerations is essential to ensure that they use AI technologies critically and in accordance with academic integrity.
