Abstract

     This research aimed to: 1) study the level of the citizen participation in the 2024 Senatorial Election; 2) compare citizen participation in the 2024 Senatorial Election; and 3) propose the application of the Four Biases principle to promote citizen participation in the 2024 Senatorial Election. A mixed-methods research design was employed. The sample consisted of 396 individuals, and data was also collected from 12 key informants. Statistical analysis included frequency, percentage, mean (), and standard deviation (S.D.). Research instruments comprised questionnaires, interviews, and contextual content analysis. Key findings revealed that: 1) The overall level of the citizen participation in the 2024 Senatorial Election was moderate participation in election activities showed the highest mean followed by operational aspects election monitoring following news and information citizen participation based on the Four Biases principle and exercising the right to vote 2) Comparisons of the citizen participation in the Senatorial Election indicated that age, education level, occupation, average monthly income, and adherence to the Four Biases principle were associated with differing levels of participation in the 2024 Senatorial Election in Borabue District. 3) The application of the Four Biases principle to promote citizen participation in the Senatorial Election suggested that reducing bias from Chanda (partiality due to liking) towards senators and establishing a system to monitor Dosa (partiality due to dislike/hatred) are biases with significant impact on senators.
