Abstract

          This research aimed to study waste management in a specific airline passenger lounge at Suvarnabhumi International Airport. The objectives included investigating 1) the policies and strategies for waste management in the airline passenger lounge, 2) the problems and challenges in waste management within the airline passenger lounge, and 3) the outcomes of waste management operations in the airline passenger lounge. This qualitative research collected data through document analysis, in-depth interviews, and non-participatory observation. Data were analyzed using content analysis and research findings were synthesized through thematic analysis.

           The research findings indicated that 1) the airline had a sustainability-focused policy, with the waste management as a dimension of that policy. The waste management strategies in the airline passenger lounge included the examination, established process and appropriate planning of food and beverages. 2) Problems and challenges in waste management within the lounge were categorized into issues related to the passenger behavior and challenges in waste management processes. 3) The outcomes of waste management operations in the airline passenger lounge revealed the increasing of environmental awareness among passengers and airline staff, leading to enhanced community engagement activities and an improved corporate image for the airline.
