Abstract

The purposes of this research were to (1) analyze the problems in civic education learning management and (2) create and evaluate the effectiveness of a model for developing a systematic civic learning management curriculum at Srinagarindra the Princess Mother School, Phuket. This research was divided into 3 phases, (1) R1D1: studied the problems and developed a draft model, (2) R2D2: improved the model, and (3) R3D3: evaluated and summarized the model.

Data were collected by (1) in-depth interviews from education experts, (2) focus group discussions with school administrators, school boards, social studies teachers, student advisors, and students and (3) online surveys for assessing 327 students’ satisfaction. The results showed that the traditional teaching of civic subject focused on measuring knowledge rather than promoting students’ life skills. When the draft model for developing the systematic civic curriculum for one semester was tested and the complete model for two semesters was used, students’ academic achievement exceeded the target at the “excellent” level in every semester. In addition, the survey results in 4 areas including learning preparation, management, assessment, and self-development showed that the students were highly satisfied in all aspects.
