Abstract

          The purposes of this research were: 1)to assess needs for developing school administrators’ authentic leadership and 2) to investigate the guidelines for improving their authentic leadership of school administrators under Nongkhai primary educational service area office 2. The sample of this research consisted of school directors and teachers at schools under Nongkhai primary educational service area office 2 totally 274, selected by multi-stage random sampling. The research instrument used for collecting data was a 5-level rating scale questionnaire with the validity index between 0.80-1.00 and the discrimination power between 0.31-0.98 reliability value at 0.975. Statistical tools in data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and Modified Priority Need Index (PNImodified).

           The findings were as follows:

  1. The needs priority for the authentic leadership of school administrators, at the schools under Nongkhai primary educational service area office 2, was generally at PNImodified =517. With consideration of each aspect, it found the followings: 1) balanced processing (PNImodified =0.727), 2) self-awareness (PNImodified =0.521), 3) relational transparency (PNImodified =0.481), and 4) internalized moral perspective (PNImodified =0.378).
  2. The guidelines for developing authentic leadership of school administrators under Nongkhai primary educational service area office 2 were categorized according to the priority needs as follow: 1) balanced processing that includes 1.1) justice in law (PNImodified = 0.852), 2) justice in exchange (PNImodified = 0.776); 2) self-awareness that includes 2.1) self- assessment (PNImodified = 0.615) and 2.2) self confidence (PNImodified = 0.534).
