Needs Assessment in Life Skills Development of Primary School Students at Schools under Sakon Nakhon Primary Educational Service Area 3

This research article aimed to study 1) The components of life skills of elementary school students; 2) The actual and expected conditions of their life skills; 3) The evaluation of needs assessment for their life skills development and; 4) The guidelines for their life skills development through four phases: 1. to study the components of their life skills; 2. to study the actual and supposed conditions of their life skills the sample group consisted of 326 school administrators and teachers; the power to classify current conditions was between 0.27-0.94; the confidence was 0.99; the power to classify the current conditions should be between 0.45-0.88, the confidence was 0.98; 3. to evaluate the development for their life skills; and 4. to study the guidelines for developing their life skills
The results showed as following
- Life skills of elementary school students consisted of four components as follows: 1) building good relationships with others, 2) self-awareness and appreciation of oneself and others, 3) managing emotions and stress, and 4) critical thinking and creative problem solving.
- For the actual condition, their overall life skills were at a moderate level ( x = 3.35); the condition that should be their life skills as a whole was at the highest level (x = 4.65).
- The needs needed to develop their life skills consisted of two aspects: 1) critical thinking decision and creative problem solving, with the mean at41; and 2) emotional and stress management, with the mean at 0.40.
- There were two aspects of life skills development guidelines for the primary school students: critical thinking decision, creative problem solving, as well as emotion and stress management.
