Abstract

ชาวไทลื้อให้ความสำคัญกับคติความเชื่อด้านโหราศาสตร์เป็นอย่างยิ่ง แม้กระทั่งในวรรณกรรมพุทธศาสนาเรื่องมหาชาติของชาวไทลื้อ ก็ยังปรากฏความเชื่อด้านโหราศาสตร์แทรกอยู่อย่างชัดเจนโดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งเรื่องการกำหนดวัน เดือน และปีเกิดให้แก่ตัวละครต่างๆ โดยอาศัยหลักเกณฑ์ตามคติโหราศาสตร์ ซึ่งมีทั้งคติโหราศาสตร์ตามอย่างพราหมณ์และคติโหราศาสตร์ในท้องถิ่นของตน นอกจากเป็นภาพสะท้อนวัฒนธรรมแล้ว ความเชื่อด้านโหราศาสตร์ในมหาชาติไทลื้อยังมีบทบาทสำคัญคือ ช่วยตอบต่อข้อสงสัยบางประการซึ่งผู้ฟังเทศน์เรื่องมหาชาติในท้องถิ่นอาจตั้งคำถามขึ้น และยังช่วยเพิ่มความสมจริงให้แก่เนื้อเรื่องและสร้างความสอดคล้องระหว่างวรรณกรรมกับสังคม

Astrology in Mahachat Jataka of Tai Lue

The belief in Astrology of Tai Lue ethnic group, originated from Brahmanism, has been adapted through a range of time to be in conformity with Tai Lue culture and social contexts. Tai Lue people have been placing great significance on astrological percepts and beliefs as evidently indicated by Buddhistic literature named Mahachat Jataka of Tai Lue, especially the part that concerns the setting of date, month, and year of birth of the characters along with astrological manifestation. The belief in Astrology of Tai Lue ethnic group not only functions as a reflection of the cultural context, but has also been incorporated as an imperative role in responding to the questions of local audiences attending the recital of Mahachat Jataka. Moreover, it accentuates the realistic quality to the contents and consistency between literature and society.
