It was found that there are 15 types of alcohol which are 1) alcohol that made from rice or grains are Surā, Yavasurā, Ariṣṭa, Dhanyāmla and Sauvīraka; 2) alcohol that made from plants are Vāruṇī, Vaibhītaka Surā, Sukta and Śanḍākī; 3) alcohol that made from fruits are Mārdavīka and Khārjūra; and 4) alcohol that made from sugar are Śarkara, Gauḍa, Sīdhu and Madhavāsava. These alcohols have different medicinal properties depending on main ingredients of each type of alcohols. The principle of Ayurveda states that drinking alcohol provides both pro and cons for physical health. However, drinking alcohol must be properly practiced along with holistic health care.
