The researcher collected data from Malai Chupinit’s short stories and novels between 1927 - 1963</p> <p>which represents the scene, atmosphere and way of life of people in urban society. This research used the concept of modernization. The research result was presented by using descriptive analysis.   </p> <p>               The result of this study found that Malai Chupinit portrayed the transformation of the city through the process of Western modernization and capitalism. The author describes a urbanity as a symbol of modernity in Thai society. The urbanity that appears in the literature of Malai Chupinit is divided into 4 areas as follows: 1) An appearance of urbanity 2) Urbanization which developed by Capitalism. 3) Urbanization and rural expansion 4) Urbanization and inequality in urban society. Even though Malai Chupinit portrayed a modern city but the author also reflects the problems caused by modernization in urban areas.
