The Effectiveness of Water Management for Agriculture: A Case Study of the Dongsawasdi Irrigation and Maintenance Project, Water Supply and Maintenance Unit 1, Phichit Province

Abstract

          The objectives of this research were: 1) to study the current situation of water management, 2) to investigate the effectiveness of water management for agriculture, and 3) to propose recommendations for water management, focusing on agriculture: A case study of the Dongsawasdi Irrigation and Maintenance Project, Water Supply and Maintenance Unit 1, Phichit Province. This was the mixed methods study: the quantitative and qualitative research included a sample group of 400 respondents for questionnaires and 20 interviewees.

           The research results showed the following

1. Results of data analysis of opinions on internal factors: the overall of each aspect was at the level of strong agreement. External factors, the overall of each aspect was at the level of strong agreement.
2. The effectiveness of water management for agriculture was highly regarded overall, with each aspect receiving particularly favorable opinions. The highest average opinion was on utilizing the effectiveness of water management for agricultural purposes.
3. Setting government policies and allocating budgets should be done in a continuous manner. There should be support for research and evaluation of project outcomes in terms of economic, social, and environmental aspects to foster sustainable development. Additionally, promoting the excavation of natural water sources in public areas and constructing reservoirs for water conservation in agricultural areas of farmers should be taken seriously.
