Abstract

          The research purposes were to study: 1) the expectations of those graduating as doctoral degree holders (D.P.A.) from Nakhonratchasima College; 2) the need to continue studying in the Doctor of Public Administration program, Public Administration major; and 3) the factors affecting the decision to study in the Doctor of Public Administration program, Public Administration major. This was the mixed methods research. The population was the 238 graduates of master's degree, anticipating to pursue a doctorate degree in Mueang Nakhon Ratchasima district, Nakhon Ratchasima province; the sample group consisted of 149 persons. There were 20 key informants: government officials, local politicians, entrepreneurs, professors, graduate students, and alumni. The research instruments were the questionnaires and structured in-depth interviews form. Statistical tools were the mean, standard deviation; and content analysis.

           The research findings were:

  1. The expectations of those doctoral degree holders (D.P.A.) from Nakhonratchasima College were: the morality, ethics, and principles of good governance; the executive with visionary; understanding of the modern management principles; a good personality; and the leadership knowledgeable in the era of change.
  2. The need for further study in the D.P.A. program was: to increase knowledge and develop their capabilities for person with more diverse abilities; to advance in their career path; and to use the degree to be promoted or raised to a higher salary.
  3. The factors affecting the decision to continue studying in the D.P.A. program were: the course instructors with qualifications and reputable faculty members; Saturday-Sunday courses; and the appropriate form of educational expenses.
