Abstract

          This research article aimed to analyze trading beliefs and values of the Thai-Chinese people shown in Thai television dramas, during 2017 – 2022.  Eight dramas outstandingly presenting plots about trading of the Thai Chinese people were selected for this study.  Research methodologies included documentary study and textual analysis of the data.

           Research findings about beliefs were: 1) naming of descendants and the business, words conveying wealth, bravery, and purity were used for inspiration in the business operation, and 2) the Chinese auspicious symbols, the pictures or Chinese characters, and the statues of auspicious animals were employed for attracting money and prosperity to the family trading. Relating to values, the Thai Chinese people preferably choose the eldest son as the heir inheriting titles and business of the family.  Also, spouses of the heirs would be selected from close economic background and classes, supporting prosperity and growth of families.
