Performance of Sub-committee on Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities (SEDPD)

The purposes of this research were to study the implications of problems and obstacles in operations and to seek the ways for improving the implementation of eliminating discrimination against persons with disabilities. This was done through the Sub-Committee on Eliminating Unfair Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities, aiming for maximum efficiency, flexibility, and comprehensive protection of the rights of persons with disabilities. The research utilized a qualitative research method. The research used semi-structured in-depth interviews as its primary method.
The results of this research consisted of 1) roles in the implementation of the judicial process for the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities by the Sub-Committee on Eliminating Unfair Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities; namely (1) the role of diagnosing discrimination problems that unfairly affected persons with disabilities, (2) the role in preparing rulings and presenting opinions to the committee, (3) the role in formulating petitions, (4) the role in mediation or assigning a sub-committee to mediate, (5) the role in preparing annual reports and reporting operational outcomes, and (6) the role in performing other tasks as assigned by the board of committee. Next, 2) problems and obstacles consisted of (1) management issues and operational delays, (2) structural problems within the sub-committee, (3) the lack of sufficient promotion of awareness and understanding of the rights of persons with disabilities, and (4) budgetary constraints. Finally, 3) efforts for eliminating discrimination against persons with disabilities consisted of (1) guidelines for enhancing public awareness, (2) guidelines for personnel development and provision of legal knowledge to personnel, and (3) guidelines for enhancing the legal knowledge of persons with disabilities.
