Abstract

The objectives of this research aimed to assess and prioritize the needs for enhancing students of teacher education in allegiance for patriotism, religion, monarchy, and Thainess. A sample group consisted of 136 teacher education students of the 1st-4th year majored in social studies, obtained by multi-stage random sampling. The research instrument was a double-response questionnaire; analysis of data and descriptive statistics were used: frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation; and the Modified Priority Needs Index (PNImodified) technique was used to rank the order of needs.

The results of the research revealed that it was necessary for  the enhancement of allegiance to patriotism, religion, monarchy, and Thainess. Overall, the PNImodified index was equal to 0.06.  The enhancement needed developing. With consideration of each aspect, there were three needs in the first rank: the 4th indicator-monarchy respecting and upholding (0.09); the 8th indicator-Thai wisdom preserving and inheriting (0.08); and the 2nd indicator-Thai nation; the 5th indicator-being proud of Thai culture and traditions; and the 7th indicator-appreciating and using Thai language to communicate correctly and appropriately (0.07).  Urgently, these three needs must be enhanced.
